Matt,

I respect your point, but in my opinion North Carolina is a beautiful
state from the Mountains to the Sea.  North Carolina is one of the
best locations in the world to be a backdrop for any Hollywood
production or Low-Budget film.  Good films were made in North
Carolina before the Department of Commerce and Politicians developed
the NC Film Commission in 1980.  For example, two films that come to mind are Disney’s Davy Crockett (1955) was filmed at the National Park’s Mountain Farm Museum right outside Cherokee and Robert Mitchum’s Thunder Road (1958) was shot in Asheville.

The problem I have is that tax dollars are going to subsidize
a multi-million dollar private industry.  While on this very day
elections are being held in 28 counties on referendums that will lead
to higher taxes in the long run for the citizens, and in many cases the
referendums will pass because leaders have made the case they don’t
have any money.  I think the money is there, our leaders need to
get a grip on their spending habits.

I do wish you best of luck being Master of Ceremonies at the film festival.
