The competition for Raleigh convention center visitors has begun. (assuming the visitors actually show up)  In this corner, we have Fayetteville Street  and in the opposite corner, we have Glenwood South.  The mayor and council are betting big wads of taxpayer money on Fayetteville Street, while the private money is betting on the first choice of the market, Glenwood South. 

Even the N&O has recognized the strength of the market.  In its article about plans for a new 10-story hotel-and-office tower near Glenwood South it notes:

They [developers] have targeted the blocks near Glenwood South in particular, as more visitors seek to wine, dine or dance near the bustling strip where the roster of bars and restaurants has more than doubled since 2001.
