That is, he simply does not like a society in which people can live in freedom because freedom leads to inequality. We must have governmental experts to plan and control “society” (that is, every individual) so people like himself can beam down from on high and see the loveliness of equality.
A century ago, so-called progressives like Herbert Croly were eager for a vast expansion of federal power to knock the stuffing out of the traditional American idea of leaving people alone as long as they weren’t attacking others and replacing it with enlightened social control by experts. If we could put Beloved Leader Obama on sodium pentathol, I’m sure we’d find out that he subscribes to that philosophy.
