That’s the question economist Richard Rahn asks about the members of the House who supported the ObamaCare bill in this column.

Actually, Rahn makes a good case that the answer is “both.”

Voting for legislation that punishes people for not wanting to buy something that the nanny statists say we must all have (federally approved health insurance) is clearly despotic. It is reminiscent of the British monarchy telling the colonists that they had to buy official stamps for all documents, except that the House bill is worse. The king didn’t insist on fining and jailing subjects who had no desire for paper. Pelosi and all her willing henchpeople won’t allow people the liberty to say, “Thanks but I’m not interested.”

As for cluelessness, Rahn observes that the plethora of new taxes and regulations are not going to raise more money for the government to lavish on providing everyone with top-flight medical care. Instead, they’ll drive away business and further depress the economy.

Voters should be asking why so many of “their” politicians are eager to pass a bill that chops away at freedom while damaging the already floundering productive sector of the economy.

David Price, how do you plead? And Kay Hagan, where do you stand?
