President Obama seems to believe that he can waive the Constitution’s restraints on his power if they get in the way of doing what he wants to just as he thinks he can waive the application of laws to favored businesses and interest groups. The latest instance of Obama’s disrespect for the rule of law is the “recess” appointments he made recently and Diane Furthgott-Roth discusses them in this Real Clear Markets piece.

Most of Obama’s statist defenders are poo-poohing this, but it makes you wonder if there is any bridge too far for them. As long as the result is to help keep Democrats in power and to advance the agendas of special interest groups allied with them, is there any illegal action that would cause them to say, “That’s unconstitutional and must be prevented”?
