Asheville Police Chief William Anderson held a press conference today to announce that the city would be hiring a civilian manager to oversee an “all-civilian” staff of evidence room keepers. No additional information about the audit appears to have been released. Needless to say, I am still a little miffed about the recent coverage of a drug bust that insinuated the, er, farmer, could not be trusted with his Second Amendment rights because he had an “anti-government stance.” Sure, I fumed for days. Only county government that loses rape kits and claims to use unaccounted-for confiscated weapons as rebar in the new jail, or city government that lets lots of evidence walk, should be trusted with a right to keep and bear arms. One common tater at the local daily’s site found it twisted that civilians should have to be hired to oversee the police.
