Have we escaped the painful repeat of the Great Depression because of actions the Federal Reserve took early in the current economic slump?

People attending a Campbell University Law School Federalist Society luncheon today heard two diverging answers to that question.

Matthew Martin is senior vice president and Charlotte regional executive for the Charlotte branch of the Fed Reserve Bank of Richmond. Robert Murphy is an adjunct scholar with the Mises Institute who’s written the “politically incorrect guides” to both capitalism and the Great Depression and New Deal.
