I was just about to post a comment on this news item, an Israeli-developed program for detecting sarcasm and irony in text format. They used Amazon.com reviews as the raw material for compiling their sarcasm and irony language-use model.

How great would it have been if JLF colleague Joe Coletti had been able to use it in the course of the discussion and interview regarding jobs-creation incentives posted earlier here on the Locker Room. Better yet, is there a real-time audio model coming along any time soon? Imagine the fun one could have at Legislative committee meetings, State of the Union/State addresses, and confirmation hearings. It would almost make a crushing tax burden worthwhile.
