In a recent column, Rob Schofield of the NC Policy Watch discovers that parents are intelligent enough, through observation and experience, to choose the educational environment that best meets the needs of their children.

…parents’ perceptions in the survey speak with great power. Parents know through observation and experience that kids in smaller classes often do better in myriad ways. They also know that less crowded schools make for better results overall. That’s why many parents choose less crowded private and charter schools for their kids when given the option.

This passage is a powerful endorsement of school choice. I disagree with Mr. Schofield on the point that parents make that choice largely based on factors like class size and school capacity, but if we can agree that parents make sound educational choices, then who knows?
