Bad when Jim Black does it. Bad when the Mecklenburg County GOP meets behind closed doors to select a new state representative. And insanely bad when county GOP chairman John Aneralla refuses to disclose the names of local executive committeemen who will make the selection, citing concerns about “harassment.”

That line sounds like the idiot bastard child of the absurd notion that county property records should be scrubbed of the names of police officers and prosecutors. If modern life is that scary, live in a cave and eat berries.

Public life requires public disclosure. There are plenty of intimate little clubs where you can play “I’ve got a secret.” Selecting a state lawmaker ain’t one of them.

Update: I recall that the Meck GOP did the same thing last year with regard to the Gauvreau-Lennon school board race.
