The NC Department of Revenue — motto: Screwing You Good Since 1921 — has done a great job of keeping the cut on the down low. A press release was dropped last month and a notice sent to retailers, many of whom seem to have ignored it. The proof, of course, will be in your sales receipt. If it says 7.5 percent, you’ve been screwed. Again.
In fact, it might not be a bad idea to ask ahead of time if the new tax rate has been keyed into the check-out process. If you get a blank stare, chances are ‘prolly not.
