The Uptown paper of record today prints a letter from Robert Bischoff, identified as an organizer of Citizens for Efficient Mass Transit. More precisely, Bischoff is a member of CATS’ Citizen Transit Advisory Group. Along with frequent cohort Martin Wheeler Jr., Bischoff is one of the area’s greatest train boosters.

Bischoff is positively hostile to the idea of busways or bus rapid transit. He and Wheeler figured prominently in the $40 million Charlotte Trolley fiasco. From their spots as officers of the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains, Wheeler and Bischoff have pitched a N.C. Railroad train stop to UNCC. They are, quite simply, train junkies. Fine. Nothing wrong with that, so long as you do not ask other people to spend billions for your choo-choos.

So no wonder when the very concept of continued choo-choo building comes under serious question they come out to claim that “the “Stop the Train” petitioners aren’t doing taxpayers any favors.”

No, the tax repeal is not doing train junkies any favors. There is a difference.
