Gordon Myers, a Buncombe County businessman appointed to the Lottery Commission by then Speaker Jim Black, has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left Myers in the hospital and several others injured.
The Highway Patrol is awaiting results of a blood test to determine if Myers can be charged with drunk driving. He now stands charged with impaired driving, reckless driving, and hit and run the Asheville Citizen-Times reports.
Myers crashed not once, but twice Tuesday night near Cane Creek Road, south of Asheville.
Myers resigned from the Lottery Commission in November 2005 after questions were raised about his connections to the Ingles grocery chain, where Myers had worked and continued to hold stock. Retail outlets for lottery sales were a policy matter for the Lottery Commission.
Myers has taken a leave of absence from from the chairmanship of Advantage West, the state economic development arm for Western North Carolina.
Black’s other appointee to the Lottery Commission, Kevin Geddings, was found guilty in October of lying on state disclosure forms.
