Not that it matters at all in the scheme of things but….

Another sign that the NASCAR Hall of Fame may not be the license to print money that some seem to assume it will be. Mike Bolton of The Birmingham News on the fan experience at the recent race in ATL:

Sitting out front in chairs was a couple from North Carolina dressed in Matt Kenseth garb.

I politely asked the man and woman how their day had gone. Bad mistake. The response was similar in tone to the one I heard a few hours before when Tony Stewart was asked about his tires.

They were disgusted that the race had little drama, that a Toyota had won and that races these days are so expensive to attend. …

The North Carolina couple’s gripes hinged mostly on the cost involved with going to a NASCAR race.

The man explained that, besides the gas cost, he was outraged by $75-a-night hotel rooms that go for $200 per night with a three-night minimum on race weekends. High ticket prices for good seats irked him, too.

Prices for concession stand food and souvenirs hit his wallet, too, with a Matt Kenseth baseball cap going for $27. No, no one forced him to make those purchases, but you’ve got to eat at the track and it’s hard to leave without buying some souvenir.

Two potential negative outcomes from this that I can see. One, that fans are so tapped out by attending races that they have nothing left to spend at the Charlotte Convention Center NASCAR Expansion. Two, fans are so turned off by NASCAR’s prices they do not go to races, and hence stop being NASCAR fans and do not want to visit the Charlotte Convention Center NASCAR Expansion.
