In a misguided attempt to avoid waiting in line, I went to my polling place in Wake Forest mid-morning. I’m not sure whose idea it was to use a combination middle/elementary school as a polling place — on a school day, obviously. The line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot stretched for about a mile.

Interestingly, the word “barracuda” was scrawled on the chalkboard near my voting booth — perhaps behind the lines campaigning?

Outside the school, Republican and Democrat campaigners peddling ?voter guides? verbally pounced me on as I approached. All I had to do was wave my voting “cheat sheet” listing my picks for judicial office, and they left me alone (like a crucifix effect?).

At least we’re not getting shot at. Yet.
