Bradley Byrne, an old friend of mine who is a state senator in Alabama, supported legislation last week
that banned the sale of keg beer to individuals. It passed in the
Senate 30-0.  The concern, it seems, was that kegs were being
bought by persons of legal age and then being consumed by college
students who had not reached legal age. Bradley’s vote may surprise
some people who remember that he was once part of a student body that
was anything but unfamiliar with keg parties.  He is a magna cum
laude graduate of Duke University.
