The following is based only on a teeny, three paragraph news upadate in the Cherokee Scout. Reality is always so much more complex. Cherokee County Manager David Badger was fired on a 2-1 vote. The votes were as follows:

Commissioner Steve Jordan voted for the ouster because the former manager had not brought jobs to the county. [Color commentary: Well, that reeks of competence. The manager knew his role and stuck to it. What’s more, he neither harbored nor conveyed to the commissioners delusions about controlling the economy. He sounds like a swell guy.]

David Wood portrayed the former manager as being uncooperative. [Color commentary: “Uncooperative” usually means things like “principled” or “uncorruptable.” It may be extended to mean “intelligent and capable of independent thought” or “courageous.”

Loraine Meltz protested the action, referring to it as a “kangaroo court.” [Color commentary: Amen, Sister.]
