Newly elected Democratic U.S. Rep. Bill Owens, who narrowly won New York’s hotly contested 23rd Congressional District race Tuesday, broke four campaign promises within an hour of his swearing-in ceremony, reports The Gouverneur Times, a New York-based conservative Web site.

Owens announced he would support the House Democrats’ health care legislation when it comes to a vote, even though during the campaign Owens said he opposed a health care bill that: includes a public option; reduces Medicare benefits; raises taxes on the middle class; and taxes health care benefits.

As the Times says:

Breaking campaign promises is not unusual for politicians … it’s a
cliche. This is almost certainly a record though. Mr. Owens broke no
less than 4 promises in his first 24 hours in office.
