This week’s Rhino reports on the Guilford County Board of Education’s motion to ask for more federal stimulus money:

School board member Paul Daniels was the only school board member to speak against asking the feds and the state for an even larger stimulus handout than the school system is already getting. Daniels said the federal government can’t keep borrowing and spending, and that any future increase in government budgets will have to come from economic growth.

“I’m going to respectfully vote against this,” Daniels said. “And the reason is that we have no money. There simply is no more money to spend. We are piling up huge debts on the backs of our children and grandchildren. The Chinese are lecturing us on how to be fiscally prudent, which I find very strange. That’s just the bottom line. There is no more money.”

In fairness, four other board members voted with Daniels on the motion, which failed on a tie vote.
