So, I’ll let the story speak for how crazy it is that incentives are being used to compete for national tax-payer funding while people at home worry about whether the work-force covered by the incentives and the potential federal funding will be diverse enough.


DURHAM — Durham County is giving $1 million in economic development funds to a local information technology company to help it better compete for a contract to provide data center services to the federal government.

However, local activist Victoria Peterson questioned whether the company will hire local workers, especially minorities.

“How many African-Americans do they already have employed?” Petersen asked. “How many Latinos? How many women? We are doing our community a terrible disservice when we don’t monitor and make sure of who they are hiring.”
