In this AEI post, Jim Pethokoukis writes about a book by a candid “progressive” (which is to say, an idolator of big government) academic, a sociology prof at the University of Arizona. The prof, Lane Kenworthy, outlines is vision for America in 2060. Of course, government would be much bigger and more powerful.

What’s remarkable about all such visions is how they assume that government power is invariably used for what they deem to be good purposes, and how they entirely ignore the opportunity costs of transferring resources away from the private, competitive sector and into the government sector, where cronyism and sheer incompetence will gobble it up.
