The $21 million Randy Parton Theater in Roanoke Rapids has a quarterly financial statement that is a state secret. The city manager has refused to release the info to Carolina Journal. The city used tax increment financing to float debt in order to build the facility.
But now the finances of the thing are “proprietary and confidential.” Neat trick. Get the public to pay for something then refuse to tell the public anything about their investment.
Here’s what I think. The statement will be released. And it will show lotsa red ink for a white elephant.
