Time’s Joe Klein provides an eye-opening example of firing in retreat. The subject is, actually, the impropriety of President Obama’s increasingly Chavezian war on Fox News, but such a dangerous point must be couched in appropriate-to-the-president language, a few highlights of which follow:

If the problem is broader–that Fox News spreads seditious lies to its demographic sliver of an audience–the Administration should probably be stoic: the wingnuts will always be with us. The best antidote to their garbage is elegant, intelligent governance. …

And perhaps therein lies the clue ? the dog-not-barking-in-the-night clue, that is ? to why the administration hasn’t found an antidote to criticism from Fox News as well as from those non-silent Nazi-like un-American mobs full of thug Ku Klux Klansmen evil-mongers waving swastikas and standing in opposition to Jesus Christ himself.
