This morning, the N.C. Court of Appeals has delivered a victory to the American Civil Liberties Union in its lawsuit challenging limits on the Holy Scriptures used for North Carolina oaths. ACLU and fellow plaintiff Syidah Mateen contend North Carolinians should be allowed to take oaths using the Quran and other holy books besides the New Testament Bible.

The trial court had dismissed the case, but the appellate court has reversed that ruling. Now the case can move forward.

Meanwhile, appellate judges rejected murderer Michelle Theer‘s bid to overturn her 2004 conviction. You might remember Theer as the woman who helped kill her Air Force Captain husband, then fled to another state. When she was captured, she had the bizarre appearance of a person who had undergone plastic facial surgery.
