The $14 billion Big Dig highway project in Boston edged closer to the $15 billion level this week. The governor of Massachusetts says he is “fed up” with the costs and the project.

Why should you care?

Because the same folks in charge of the Big Dig were hired by CATS to do design and engineering work on the South Blvd. light rail line. You know, that $463 million project that was supposed to cost $227 million.

That $463 million number, by-the-way, is now eight months old.

Does anyone else think it needs to be updated? Let’s get CATS on the record either standing behind that number — right now — or a new cost estimate.

We do not need Big Dig-sized surprise in Charlotte.
