Here’s to the wisdom of stopping while you’re ahead. News outlets have recently reported that North Carolina Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-1st, received $5,000 from Charlie Rangel, a Democratic congressman from New York who is the target of an ethics inquiry.
Back in January, Under the Dome reported the following statement from Butterfield’s spokesman, Ken Willis, about the donation:
[Butterfield’s] integrity is not for sale, and certainly not [for] $5,000.”
Not for $5,000, but maybe for $5 million, then? Wisdom says it would have been better to leave off that last part.
