In a true “man bites dog” moment, a silly reality television program has produced a valuable piece of information about political beliefs.
Danny Hooley’s “Media Mix” column in today’s News & Observer tells the story of a Pittsboro hunter who spent a month with a family of vegan animal activists. Hunter George Snedeker and the vegan family got along pretty well, engaging in thoughtful discussions.
But Snedeker had a different assessment of other activists:
“None of them like one another,” he says, “because there’s some little
bitty philosophy within their membership book or their handbook that
says ‘We can’t like them, because they don’t agree with this little
sentence in our book.’ When you’re totally in the middle of that, it’s
kind of overwhelming.”
It’s a pretty wise assessment from a man who agreed to wear a chicken suit outside a Sunset Boulevard KFC.
