Haywood County intends to privatize components of its solid waste system. These include the pick line where recyclables are sorted and satellite waste collection centers. Studies are underway to see if the private sector can handle additional functions more efficiently.

Arguing against privatization with fallacy ad hominem and one-sided economics is one pick line worker:

If people in Haywood County don’t think their landfill fees will go up through privatization, I’d like to sell them some oceanfront property on Crabtree Bald. . . . They can jiggle figures any way to make it look like they will save money, but they’re not over the long haul. I’ve seen privatized stuff before. They make it look good for awhile and then they start adding more and more. . . . Private industries are in a business to make money.

Said employee is also concerned private sector employees will lose government benefits.
