UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp is leaving the university for Washington University in St. Louis. He will be remembered for a variety of things — some bad, some good. Here’s one of the good ones, courtesy of UNC’s Habitat for Humanity Club, which is building a home for a deserving family and honoring the Thorps as well.

On Friday, Patti Thorp came out to the site and brought a catered lunch for the volunteers of the club’s 4th Blitz Build, a three day all-out effort to raise money and make progress on the house. The house is being built for Marta Puebla and her family.

The Habitat effort not only includes volunteers going out to build the houses, it involves raising money to pay for it. For Puebla’s house, the club is trying to raise $20,000.

Grey Idol, co-chair of fundraising, said the club members tried to recruit 75 volunteers for the Blitz Build, which started Friday afternoon and ended Sunday afternoon. The club asked each volunteer to bring or raise $30 to donate to raise $2,250 toward the $20,000 goal.
