At least at Clemson, “Eye of the Tiger” had some connection with the team’s mascot. And I can still remember the Sousaphone fingering for the Original Dixieland Jazz Band arrangement of “Tiger Rag”; our sheet music was from about 1947 and was utterly out of print, so committing it to memory was our part of saving Western Civilization.

However, I can’t explain “Take the A-Train”, which we also played regularly. Maybe it was because someone wrote rude lyrics referring to the University of Georgia for the Ray Charles tag at the end.
