I saw her on PBS’s “Charlie Rose Show” last night, discussing her renewal of faith and her new fiction project, a series of books about the boy Jesus. Her interview with Charlie Rose was very interesting, the proof of that assertion being that I actually sat through the annoying Rose interview anyone. It reminded me of Diane Sawyer’s interview with Mel Gibson, in fact, save that Rose didn’t wince quite so visibly at Rice’s Gospel-true statements on the Christian faith and salvation as Sawyer did at Gibson’s.

At one point Rose, after questioning Rice if she thought the Gospels were believable and being told (to his evident surprise) that yes, she did, tried to distract Rice with mentioning that many people found contradictions between the Gospels. Her answer was short and to the point; she shook her head, saying only in minor details, but they got one detail right, and in a span of a few seconds brought up the person of Jesus, his life, death and resurrection, and his plan of salvation, boom, boom, boom, leaving Rose no time to interject another distraction.
