The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announces the creation of the position of Executive Director for the Arts. This position will provide leadership towards enhancing the performing arts at Carolina. The Executive Director for the Arts is a senior level administrative position reporting to the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. The Executive Director will guide the University in planning and articulating a comprehensive performing arts program and will serve as an advocate for the performing arts both within and outside the University. The Executive Director will provide leadership and vision to enable Carolina to advance its performing arts programs, and their links to the academic mission of the University, to a new level of creativity and excellence. The Executive Director for the Arts will have full responsibility for Memorial Hall (the major campus performance venue with 1400 seats), Historic Playmakers Theatre (to be renovated into a 200 seat drama, film and music venue), and Gerrard Hall (to be renovated into a 300 seat multipurpose venue), and will make determinations of appropriate use of these facilities for performances, lectures, and other events. The EDA will also oversee staff operations of these facilities, including technical support, ticketing, publicity, marketing, and fundraising.
