N.C. District 62 Rep. John Blust has announced his run for the new 13th Congressional District.
Blust, an attorney from Greensboro, is in his eighth term in the state House and he served one term in the state Senate. He voiced some what have become standard Republican themes saying, “Right now we stand as the first generation in the history of this country that is handing off an America that is worse off than the America we inherited from the previous generation.”
…However, when asked how many of the bills that he sponsored were passed in the last legislative session, Blust said, “I don’t think I passed any this year.” According to state House records, not a single bill where Blust was a primary sponsor passed.
He did note that his biggest bill, the taxpayer bill of rights, did pass the Senate. But it did not pass the House, where Blust is a member.
As the News & Record recalls, Blust bucked legislative Republicans over the Greensboro City Council redistricting, which is working its way through the courts.
State Sen. Andrew Brock is the only other candidate to officially announce a run for the 13th, although several other candidates have said the are contemplating a run. However, the Winston-Salem Journal’s Scott Sexton raises an interesting question— will perennial Congressional candidate Vernon Robinson be able to resist the temptation to make a run at the 13th?
