Where will it end?

Speaker Jim Black’s buddies in the Easley administration — Mike Easley, rumored to be the governor? Remember him? — have cleared the way to pay Jim Black’s lawyers up to $30,000 in taxpayer funds. Recall that Black only has had to hire lawyers because Black has been under investigation by a federal grand jury.

It is not surprising that Black asked for the state money, or that the Easley gang said yes. But it would be disappointing if a firm as well-heeled as Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw takes the money and keeps it.

Charlotte’s district attorney goes begging for dollars to prosecute criminals and put them and in jail, yet Jim Black can roll up to the Easley ATM for quick cash to pay for his court costs.

Where is the outrage? Pat McCrory? Anybody?
