American colleges and universities will allow professors to create new fields of study covering just about anything that causes anyone the least bit of trouble. As an example, we now have “fat studies.” Read all about it here.
Quoting from The Chronicle’s article, “The field takes its cues from queer studies and disability studies — subjects pursued primarily by activists who feel they have been discriminated against because of their identity. Scholars held the first academic meeting on fat studies two years ago, and the first fat-studies reader is in the works.”
