Emory University English professor Mark Bauerlein responds here to the recent hit piece Jane Mayer wrote for The New Yorker on Art Pope.

He calls it poor journalism and shows why. This article (like her previous one on Charles and David Koch) is nothing more than a DailyKos type rant dressed up in better English. Evidently it never occurs to Mayer to ask herself if her premises are true. If, for example, Art Pope is “buying” North Carolina, why is it that his efforts (which go back to the late 80s) were for so long defeated by a coalition of big government advocates?
