I’m not sure if I can find a precious hour of my ever-shortening life to listen to the recorded closed session where the Greensboro City Council decides to dump City Manager Mitchell Johnson when the Rhino’s John Hammer sums it up so well.

null

Here’s the gist of the tape, according to Hammer: Zack Matheny speaks, and he’s attacked by Goldie Wells and Dianne Bellamy-Small. Sandra Anderson-Groat speaks, and she’s attacked by Wells and Bellamy-Small. Trudy Wade speaks, and she’s attacked by Wells and Bellamy-Small. Mike Barber and Mary Rakestraw speak……you get it.

Groat, however, did reveal some insight into what led her to change views on Johnson:

Groat said that she met with Mitch Johnson on Friday, Feb. 27, and he asked her, “What have I done wrong? What can you prove that I’ve done wrong?” Then according to Groat he said, “I can tell you what this is all about. It is about John Hammer and they want my blood for David Wray’s blood.” She said that Mitch Johnson said, “I am arrogant and I do have an ego,” but she said he took no responsibility for anything. He did not say, “Well, looking back, I could have made a different decision.” She said that he wasn’t very flexible and would not admit that he had ever made a mistake.

Groat said that helped her stick to her decision, and if he had indicated he thought he had some responsibility for the situation he was in that would have been different, but his attitude that it was all someone else’s fault convinced her she was right.

This is an example of the ‘classy, professional behavior’ N&R editor John Robinson says Johnson exhibited as he was about to get canned?

I’m still trying to figure why the N&R is so in luv with Mitch Johnson.
