In today’s WSJ, Kimberly Strassel has an important column on the impending fight over health care. The Democrats think they have a winning strategy of incrementally extending their socialist prescription to more and more of the population. Naturally, they are starting with children.

Can this be averted? Strassel points out that in 1993, Senator Phil Gramm took charge and succeeded in blocking Hillarycare. Will anyone be able to play that role today?

We’re facing the classic “road to serfdom” scenario and could very well end up with something like the British National Health Service in time. I wish that some intrepid questioner would ask at the next Democratic “debate,” why it is that the candidates are so eager to impose an inefficient system on the American people just so they can win an election.
