More interesting details emerge about Keith Carter, the suspect in the shooting of Officer Howard Plouff:
People who know Carter, a student at Winston-Salem State University, said yesterday that news of his arrest came as a shock…..
Carter had been working at a downtown hotel and looked forward to graduating, said Carlos Brown, a cousin.
“He wanted to be a teacher,” Brown said. ” How many aspiring teachers do you know carry guns to shoot at people for no reason?”
Carter holds five handgun permits, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. He got one in March 2006 and four in January. He does not have any permits for a concealed gun.
So I have to ask why an aspiring teacher would have five handgun permits, not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m not prejudging Carter, because I’m curious to see how police are exactly able to pin him as Plouff’s assailant among the frantic crowd in the Red Rooster parking lot. I’m aslo certainly aware Winston-Salem police have messed up before. With that it mind, it’s certainly interesting to note that Daryl Hunt counsel Mark Rabil has been appointed to represent Carter.
