If six people of a shared diversity demographic are sufficient reason to “include” that demographic’s “issues” in the curriculum, then according to its enrollment report of 20051, NC State has a lot of work to do. Consider:

? There are nine students at NC State from Tyrrell County. Where are their issues in the curriculum?

? Arkansans have achieved the magical number of six among the NC State student community. They have issues, too; the curriculum simply must address them!

? Six Australians! Get cracking! And lend some curricular issue-addressing to the seven Egyptians while you’re at it!

? Why, there are six Germans and six Guatemalans, too. Did you realize how woefully unprepared NC State’s curriculum was?

? There are six Israelis, too ? but the mood in academe is divestment, so don’t mind them. Those seven Kenyans, six Swedes, seven Ukrainians, and eight Romanians, though; they all need attention.

? Plus, if we consider that most studies place left-handedness at approximately 10 percent of a population, and there are 76 Turks and 58 Chinese, you must realize that NC State’s curriculum must be reformed to address the issue of left-handed Turks and left-handed Chinese! These needs must be addressed!

Note

1. For some reason, the “Diversity@NC State” Demographics web page points to data from 2003. If you follow the links to “County, State, and Country” data, you would learn that in Fall 2003 NC State had five students from the Soviet Union. It still had a student from the Soviet Union in 2004. Apparently there was a sad day in Raleigh between Fall ’04 and Fall ’05 when someone finally broke the news.
