Barack Obama once famously said, “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” You can be sure that whatever “point” that is, it will always be higher than the combined income and other wealth that Barack and Michelle Obama accrue.
It must be the same with Christmas trees. However many Barack and Michelle want is below that point when one has enough:
Amazing how a reelection can reshape an incumbent’s thinking about many things. Now safely ensconced in the White House for 49 more months, the Obamas have decorated the place with 54 Christmas trees this year.
Even allowing for the usual Washington excesses with taxpayer money, that’s a whole grove of Christmas trees.
“We have 54 trees in the White House,” an excited Michelle Obama proudly told visitors the other day. “54! That’s a lot of trees.”
In fact, the Obamas’ 54 trees this year are almost 50% more Christmas trees than last year. That was during the campaign before Obama whispered a reminder to the Russians that he had to be careful until Nov. 6, when a victory would give him more “flexibility.”
There are 132 rooms in the White House. But if you take away the 35 bathrooms, three kitchens, the bowling alley where Obama bowls 29, and the movie theater, none of which really should need a Christmas tree, that leaves you with 92 rooms. That’s more than one Christmas tree for every two rooms, including the 11 bedrooms.
One has to wonder how the Obamas, Malia, Sasha, and Bo move around in that place without tipping over a conifer. And where are the tree-huggers who weep when a tree is cut down?:
