Today, NCICL filed a lawsuit on behalf of NC Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson (still not my Facebook friend). Governor Perdue, members of the State Board of Education, and education CEO Bill Harrison are listed as defendants in the suit, which seeks to clarify public school governance in North Carolina.
Of course, one wonders why Atkinson did not file a lawsuit when, in 2007, Governor Easley appointed J.B. Buxton to a position that usurped her authority. She did not give a satisfactory answer to that question at today’s press conference.
