The Winston-Salem Journal reports Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center is back in Medicare’s good graces following the brutal beating of a 2-year girl under the hospital’s care:

N.C. Baptist needed to regain compliance with Medicare in three categories: governing body, patients’ rights and nursing services.

The medical center said the “immediate jeopardy” status for reimbursement termination was removed April 21 after it submitted a corrective action plan to Medicare.

At that time, the medical center said Medicare, through officials from the N.C. State Survey Agency, would conduct a review of whether the medical center had implemented its plan by mid-June. Medicare would determine by June 30 whether the hospital was fully compliant.

Baptist spokesman Chad Campbell said medical center had spent $1 million for enhanced security procedures above and beyond what the federal government was requiring. Meanwhile, Jacob Andrew Milton –who is accused of beating the 2-year-old girl —–remains in Forsyth County Jail under a $2 million bond.
