Greensboro City Council member Mike Barber calls on 40 police officers suing for discrimination to drop the suit in return for the city possibly paying their legal fees.

Never mind the fact that if the officers truly were suing “only to shine light on grievances within the department” and “not for a selfish money grab,” then I can’t imagine they would mind light shining on those grievances in a public trial. Remember, the discimmination lawsuit was filed when the council pulled back a deal to settle the officers’ EEOC lawsuit after they got an earful from the public.

So it’s not the best political move, though Barber still insists he’s not running for anything in the upcoming council election. Still, you can’t but think that Barber is trying to look mayoral. And fellow council member Robbie Perkins’ hissy fit over use of the press room makes one long for Barber-Perkins mayor’s race, doesn’t it?
