I can only assume Greensboro Politics got its news about City Council member Mike Barber from the same place the N&R gets its city hall news: the Rhino.

While John Hammer says Barber’s decision not to seek reelection is “bad news for the loyal opposition” that got the votes to oust City Manager Mitchell Johnson, Barber is “is being coy about his future plans,” and Hammer goes so far as to speculate about “barnburner” of a mayoral race between Barber and fellow council member Robbie Perkins.

Meanwhile, Hammer thinks it’s “huge” that Guilford County board chairman Skip Alston —“former state president and national board member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People” —- not to mention treasurer of the Simkins PAC — agreed to cut the county’s MWBE coordinator. This, according to Hammer, is evidence of the fact that the commission is “functioning the way local government is supposed to function.”

But something’s definitely not right with Alston bringing in Pat Danahy and Steve Bowden to help look for a new county manager.
