N.C. A&T Chancellor Stanley Battle resigns after just 18 months on the job. As usual over at A&T, secrecy surrounds the situation:

Battle did not return calls to his office Tuesday. University officials denied rumors of his resignation throughout the day before issuing a press release confirming it in the late afternoon.

……Several faculty and staff members said they were told not to comment to the media. But some said Battle’s hands-on style was seen by as micromanaging and led to conflicts that could be behind his resignation.

By the same token, leaders generally make these quick decisions when they realize the mess their predecessor left behind is way bigger than they thought.

Update: The N&R editorializes, saying “(b)oth Both the A&T and Greensboro communities deserve a fuller explanation than they got during Tuesday’s awkward dance around transparency.”
