At tonight’s Guilford County Board of Education meeting, chief of staff Eric Becoats will assume the role of co-interim superintendent, along with CFO Sharon Ozment.
Today’s Rhino reminds us of the uh, difficulties Becoats encountered while working for Charlotte/Mecklenburg Schools:
Becoats resigned from his position as superintendent of planning and development for CMS in January 2004, six months after being reprimanded and suspended from his job by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Superintendent James Pughsley for violating school policies by using public time, telephones and equipment to make money on the side as a consultant for school systems in Little Rock, Arkansas and Union County, North Carolina.
Something to think about as the search for a new superintendent commences, though it is hard to imagine (in my opinion) that Becoats and Ozment would serve as co-interim superintendents only to have the shcool board choose one over the other. But you never know.
