According to an interesting report in The New York Times, we can expect even greater influence from one of the nation’s most powerful unions than we have seen in the last couple of election cycles.
Since organizing in July of 2004 and partnering with the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has spent over $1 million influencing state legislative races here in North Carolina.
In the most recent report filed with the North Carolina State Board of Elections, the Service Employees International Union has over $24 million in the bank.
According to the NY Times report, “Union officials say they will help Democratic candidates for governor in Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina and Washington.”
Looks like SEIU will also be stepping in again to help those North Carolina candidates for the legislature who are friendly to their way of thinking. After all, the fastest growing union in America has to have somewhere to grow.
