A Wake County judge has sided with the N.C. School Boards Association and against Speaker Jim Black and his optometrist pals in shelving mandatory eye exams for rising kindergartners. The multi-million windfall for Black’s cronies had no real medical necessity, certainly none that was ever brought before the General Assembly — because the mandate was never seen by the General Assembly, slipped in as it was by Black at the last minute.

Talk about corrective vision.
