Greensboro City Council member Dianne Bellamy-Small’s blog is off to a rousing start. Her first post, dated May 28, is identical to the statement she released 15 days ago after the council set the date for her recall election. Maybe I’m cynical, but I don’t expect much from Bellamy-Small’s blog.

Meanwhile, County Commissioner Skip Alston hasn’t posted in a week. Hopefully he will react to today’s N&R article reporting that county commissioners are leaning toward a bond referendum to pay for the new jail. Alston doesn’t think the county needs a new jail, period, but if commissioners are determined to have one, he’s spoken in favor of a bond referendum.

But even if the bond is doomed to fail, as Commissioner Paul Gibson predicted, the county is right to at least put it before the voters before turning to COPs. My gut reaction is voters are more likely to pass a $105 million bond for a new jail than a $450 million bond for the school system.
